The Product Development Manager will play a critical role in our business as we continue to expand on our brands and products for our customers. We need a passionate product development expert in the industry of health/supplements to support our products during this exciting period of growth.
Job Description
- Head product development as company scales rapidly
- Partner extensively with vendors on formulas, third-party testing documentation, packaging, graphic design, labels, and kitting
- Create innovative product ideas and formulas for various company brands
- Research ingredients that are supported by clinical studies and scientific data
- Collaborate with the manufacturer R&D team to develop innovative formulations while meeting target costs and margins
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new ingredient technology, and competitor landscape
- Lead brainstorming sessions for brand and product names
- Research trademarks and website domains for new product and brand names and report findings
- Create survey questionnaires to gage interest in new product concepts and names
- Prepare surveys for testing and launch utilizing Zoho
- Maintain the product roadmap and launch calendar, communicating critical dates to the team
- Oversee product label design, copy, claims, supplement facts, and compliance
- Obtain and negotiate quotes from vendors and present to CEO for approval
- Communicate all component and product availability dates to team on a regular basis
- Participate in daily calls and inform team of any new or urgent product updates
- Conduct competitor product research
- Understand company marketing objectives as they related to product development
- Attend industry events (Supply Side, ect)
- Organize and conduct company-wide product brainstorms
- Review books from our MD spokespeople
- Create product and product line presentation decks for spokespeople
- Maintain a “ready list” of product ideas to pitch to spokespeople
- Communicate with management, spokespeople to optimize formulas
Qualifications
- Biology degree preferred with 1-3 years of marketing experience
- OR a degree in Marketing or a related field with 1-3 years product development experience in health and/or wellness products
- Strong understanding of ingredients on the health supplement market
- Strong ability to research new ingredients
- Strong ability to assess clinical studies, results and quality
- Strong organizational skills, including keeping track of ingredient trends
- Ability to track industry trends
- Ability to work cross-functionally with teams
- Meet company product price targets
